Sometimes it's not fun to get right. In this blog, I started two years ago, highlighting certain problems within the bourgeoisie. The basis of the problem was a simplified political strategy with too much focus on appearance, focus groups and the median voter. Unfortunately, I was right, and much more right than I had feared.
Had I then said that the Conservatives would get 13.6 per cent in the European elections had surroundings laughed. As low poll numbers at over 30 percent, and it was a matter of when - not if - the Conservatives would take over the Social Democrats' role as the governing party in Swedish politics.
The warning signs were also available. The party tempted icsc to trust of core voters and it was only a matter of time before they would start voting with their feet. It was just too much focus on positioning and gambit - one might say that M had fallen back into old habits by picking the lowest hanging fruit.
But it's also about diminishing marginal utility. When all parties are trying to approach the median voter will be crowded. And when it's crowded tend voters to choose icsc the party which they have the greatest confidence.
It was perhaps the biggest mistake. Party Strategists in M thought icsc they owned the issue of trust. This despite the fact that governments tend to lose popularity after eight years in power - this is as predictable as it is going to rain in summer. Still, the emphasis is all on red and hope that there will be black. But now it was black and the Conservatives lose big.
Well, it is easy to be wise. But back in 2009, I observed that the major parties should sit still in the boat. When I was talking about that they should not try to brand themselves in minor matters - to jump on the tuft after tuft does not inspire confidence. The major parties should of course have all the answers - they will not, however, try to outflank enfrågeparti engines. But it is equally true that a large party also needs to have a base to start from and that they are also in this sense should icsc sit still. Approaching the middle, it is easy to lose voters on the flanks.
Also last European elections dropped M, and I have outlined the reasons in the blog post "Middle Kingdom". If you replace "fire brigade" and "police" in the figure above with dimensions "taxes", "legal", "feminism", "refugees", "defense" and "environment / job" (six dimensions), it is easy to see what gone awry. The party has moved closer to the middle of all the questions and become encapsulated. And in the Swedish model - with proportional representation - there is no exit. This can go just how bad any time.
